About

P4K At-A-Glance

Partnership 4 Kids is a goal setting and group mentoring program that builds hope for under-served students and helps them create a foundation for success from kindergarten to careers.

  • Who we serve:  Students who are economically challenged,  those who may come from a non-traditional family,  who are at-risk,  who are struggling with language barriers or who are dealing with disabilities.
  • Why our students do well: More than 400 volunteers serve as mentors, goal buddies, and book buddies providing each student with added support and encouragement.
  • How it works: With a commitment of 2-5 hours monthly, our volunteers make a visible impact on the lives of these students during one of the most crucial times of their development.
  • What your contribution can do: The cost per day to fund programming for one student is $1.08, less than your average morning cup of coffee.
  • When our students complete P4K’s K-10 programs: They can enroll in collaborative college preparatory programs for students in grades 11 and 12.
  • Where the funding for P4K’s scholarship program comes from: Our Foundation provides support and a scholarship program for college-bound students

Our History

Two Families, One Dream To Make A Difference
In 1996, local businessman Jerry Hoberman and his wife, Cookie, created a program to recognize students for their academic achievement.  The Hobermans patterned the basis of the program after an incentive system Jerry used to motivate his employees.  Jerry and Cookie transformed what began as an “Adopt A School” relationship with Belevedere Academy, into a school-wide achievement program that engaged not only the students, but their teachers, families and the entire community in working toward a common goal of student success. The program, which was called Winners Circle, grew over time and was incorporated into Partnership 4 Kids elementary school program, which is actively used in 12 OPS elementary schools.

A few years before the creation of the Winners Circle program, another self-made businessman, Mike Yanney and his wife, Dr. Gail Walling Yanney, started a mentoring program for local students struggling to live up to their academic potential.  The pilot program began with a group of 20 students from McMillan Middle School.  ‘Yanneys Kids’, as the group of students dubbed themselves, went on to become college graduates and the Yanneys’ small community project blossomed into a full-fledged mentoring program known as All Our Kids. Today, the Yanneys’ creation has evolved even further into the city’s first group-mentoring program, serving students in five OPS middle schools and five high schools.

Two Programs Become One
In 2007, Winners Circle and All Our Kids joined forces to help more disadvantaged students stay in school and graduate.  Today, those two programs have grown together and formed one organization, known as Partnership 4 Kids. We are proudly serving nearly 6,100 students in 22 Omaha Public Schools and a variety of post-secondary institutions. We are dedicated to helping those students reach their fullest potential and achieve success from kindergarten to careers!

Partner Collaborations
In the spring of 2013, Partnership 4 Kids created a formal alliance with TeamMates, College Possible and Avenue Scholars to help Omaha’s youth reach their full academic potential. P4K now has a group of 20 (and growing) partner programs that our agency collaborates to support our students. Click HERE for a complete list.
