P4K Scholar Spotlight: IK Igbinigie

IK Igbinigie completed four years of programming with Partnership 4 Kids before receiving P4K’s  All Our Kids scholarship to attend UNO.   He initially enrolled in P4K because he wanted assistance with college preparation and heard positive things about the program from his peers. He also wanted some additional help and mentoring as he set career and college goals.   Since enrolling in Partnership 4 Kids IK has achieved great success. He graduated from North High School with a 4.3 GPA, and is currently a junior maintaining a 3.7 in his...

Students Explore Entrepreneurship With Sharks, Popcorn and P4K

There is an old cliché that says the smell of success is sweet, but if you were to ask 98 P4K 8th graders, they might say that success smells more like popcorn. During the month of February, P4K 8th grade students learned about the art of entrepreneurship by starting their own businesses selling –you guessed it—popcorn! “We knew that popcorn would sell well and that the students could imagine all sorts of different ways to make their business unique and set it apart from the other students’ popcorn businesses,” said Partnership 4 Kids Middle...

Warm Hands & Hearts Spreading Throughout The Community

As the temperature snaps from delightful to frightful, parents everywhere are scrambling to snatch up winter gear that will keep their kiddos safe from the cold. Sadly despite all their efforts, many of these parents are not able to afford the cost of new coats and hats for little ones who seem to grow two sizes every year. The very thought of any child having to go without proper winter wear was enough to motivate P4K Operations Manager, Jen Arnold to do something about it. “When I started with P4K in 2011, I overheard a colleague mention...

Boat Tours, Beanie Babies, Black Holes & Brad Kirshenbaum

On any ordinary scale, boat tours, beanie babies, brain freeze and black holes don’t have anything in common, much less have a reason to be mentioned in the same sentence.  Then again, P4K’s newest team member, Brad Kirshenbaum is not any ordinary guy. “I was actually published as an expert source on astronomy when I was in seventh grade,” Brad says. In all fairness the credentials he was credited with (a college-level astronomy professor) were bogus, but the information that he gave in his response to the post was completely accurate.  Brad...
